If I could change one thing about the world, I would…🌏🕊️

Equality, a fundumental principle that lies at the heart of a just and  fair society. Has been championed
throughout history by activists, philosophers, and leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. In recent years, the need for equality has only become more pressing, with debates around gender, race, sexuality, and other identity markers taking center stage.

As we take a step back and observe our world, it becomes evident that every minute on earth, about 260 babies are born. These little creatures come into contact with our world for the first time, taking their first breaths in the first 10 seconds. Although they may appear alike, their experiences are vastly different from one another. From the scents around them, to the sounds they hear, and the cleanliness of the air they breathe, their predetermined life paths begin ath the moment of their birth.

For some, their first steps in life entail access to healthy, well cooked meals, clean water and proper hygiene. They enjoy warm and comfortable homes, medical care, and the carefree innocence of childhood. Others, however, are not as fortunate, lacking acess to basic necessities and facing obstacles that compromise their health and wellbeing. These disparities are the result of the location where they are born, and often, this is out of their control.

Growing up, some will have access to education for free, while others may not have access to it at all. Some will live in families, where they enjoy the comforts of quality time with their parents, while others may not have that privilege. Some will have ample free time for reading and entertainment, while others will have to works to support their families. Some will  have the opportunity to discover and improve their abilities, whereas others may not even have access to bacis resources. Some will have the opportunity to dream about their future, but for some, the future is uncertain due to the lack of resources. Some wi
ll have the opportunity to express themselves freely, while others may not be able to do so due to societal restrictions.

And then adult life comes. In adulthood, everything becomes a matter of "choises". But what not everyone considers is the range of otpions available to them. Those who were lucky enough to have grown up in the best possible way, with selfless love, have the best chance of making the right choices for a life full of happiness and love. However, there are also those who grew up in unfavorable circumstances, either because they were very poor or very rich. The very poor are likely to make bad choices and have a higher chance of becoming criminals and livinf off of others. The very rich are also likely to make bad choices and live at the expense of others, with the difference being that their impact is indirect rather than direct.

All of the factors mentioned above are mainly based on luck - where and when someone is born - and they can be changed with equality. If there is one thing i could change about the world, it would be to achieve true equality. Some may argue that equality is an negligible issue when compared to war and poverty. However, upon deeper reflection, we can see that the root cause of many of these tragedies is actually a lack of equality.

Imagine a world where the very rich did not believe they had the right to control or interere with the lives of the very poor. In this world, wars and conflicts would cease to exist. Through a better and fairer distribution of wealth, poverty would be eradicated, and opportunities for personal growth and development would be available to all. IF those in positions of power recognized the importance of equality and saw themselves as equals to those around them, they would be less likely to exploit those who are less powerful. With an understanding that success should be earned through hard work and merit, a true meritocracy could be achieved. If love and empathy were at the forefront of their minds, those in power would have the ability to create a more compassionate and sustainable world for all.

Futhermore, if the impoverished had the opportunity to fulfill their basic need with dignity, they could devote their time to developing their knowledge and skills. This, in turn, would provide them with the means to recognize and seize opportunities to improve their quality of life. If these individuals were granted the same access to education and information as their more fortunate counterparts, imagine how much more prosperous our society and culture could become. By feeling that there is genuine equality and equal opportunities for all, they would be more likely to pursue education and encourage their children to do the same. A world where love and equality reign, where hard work and merit are rewarded, would greatly reduce the prevalence of crimes of all kinds.

Inequality is at the root of all discrimination, whether based on race, ethnicity, physical ability, social status, political affiliation, religion, eonomic standing, sexual orientation, skin color and countless other factors. The equality means treating everyone with equal respect and dignity, regardless of these differences. I have my own rights and beliefs, but i also have a responsibility to accept and respect those of others, even if i disagree, as long as it does not harm me physically or mentally.

In a world where people learn to love themselves and others for who they are, and work together to achieve equality at all levels, side by side, with mutual support, respect, peace, and without exploittation, hope can flourish. This hope can be magnified if the world's great powers, the states and organizations commit to promoting equality in a fair and impartial manner, without personal interests.

However, achieving this vision cannot be accomplished by individuals alone, as it requires great effort and commitment, particularly from those who are most disadvantaged. Education is essential, beginning in early childhood and continuing throughout one's life, so that people can always act with the guiding principles of equality, and recognize when those principles are being violated so they can take action.

While it may seem utopian and nearly impossible, people once believe the same about flying, yet here we are. If we can foster grater equality, we can learn to respect all forms of life, including our planet.

  1. Thank you, Sofia! I support you in your desire to make the world a better place through the reign of equality. It's all up to us. If we learn to treat ourselves and others with love and respect, and teach our children to do the same, inequality simply won't make sense.
And what a wonderful place our world can be when the needs and ideas of each person are taken into account. And where, with the help of joint efforts and contributions, we enrich our culture and make living on our planet comfortable and sustainable 🤝🌍
